It’s days like this that we long for; days full of raw, organic moments all strung together and laced with sentimentality. It makes telling stories that much easier. Ruth and Matthew are a part of an incredible family and community of friends. It was so clear to see that it wasn’t just Ruth & Matthew making a covenant to one another, but the village that surrounds them making a covenant to uphold them and their marriage. Too often our generation treats marriage like a decision void of community, that it is an exclusively personal decision. But Ashley and I can attest that marriage is nothing without a strong and invested community to support the promises we made. It was so exciting to watch Ruth and Matthew embody that belief and celebrate their day with so many loved ones who they know and trust will push them to a lifelong relationship. Watching Ruth’s father give her hand to Matthew, and then step in front of them both to then usher them through their vows was powerful. And Ruth and her mother couldn’t make eye contact the entire day without both bursting into tears. It was awesome.
And might I just add that Ruth and Matthew are ridiculous with one another. Not only are they cute as heck and wildly in love, but hilarious when they start goofing off with each other. I can’t say enough about the day and about the time I’ve had to spend getting to know these two. I can’t wait to see where God leads them.
