Afternoon light streamed in through the sides of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Memorial Chapel. I promise you – I’ve never seen a wedding venue glow so golden and warm. As personal vows were exchanged, some of my favorite words I heard promised to each other were said – “I did, I do, and I will always choose you.”
To me, it was a beautiful reminder that, yes, love has a ton of fun feelings that escape uncontrollably as we find the one for us. But the one for us also has to be chosen – a moment in the past when we say “yes,” and daily into the future.
Carey and Nick are those people that you meet for a brief moment in life, look forward to their wedding, and even get to drive them around from the chapel to the reception, and a few hours later, a total friend crush emerges. (Side note – at what point during a wedding day is it okay for a photographer to ask to hang out with them soon?)
I’m so thankful to have been a part of their day and am unashamed to say how much my wife and I wish we had them around Durham still. They’ve kicked off their marriage by moving to Japan, and we’re sending them loads of love from this side for their first year.
I hope you can experience their love for each other, and their friends and family’s love for them through these photos from a beautiful New England day.
