Cortland & Micaiah | Durham Hotel Engagement
I met these two years ago, amidst our second or third year shooting weddings. At the time, Cortland was a renown DJ with the amazing Joe Bunn, and Micaiah was planning weddings with Orangerie Events. I think somehow the planets aligned so that all of us were present on the same wedding day, and it was a thing to behold. We had a blast working together, getting to know one another, and serving the couple as much as we could. We all had a chemistry that clicked immediately. Micaiah, Ashley and Priscilla all chatted about life, love and relationships while Cortland and I bonded over far deeper issues like Cole Haan’s, suits and both of our mancrushes on Justin Timberlake.
I remember looking at Ashley and saying “we need to shoot their wedding”, but knew that it was a long shot considering how deeply the two were connected in the wedding world. Fast forward to last summer when I got a call from Cortland saying “Bro, I finally asked her, and she actually said yes!” We met and got to relive their horseback proposal (not kidding when I say that), Cortland’s surprising country roots, Micaiah’s incredible plan for their wedding day, and their vision for their engagement shoot.
They wanted a mix of sexiness in the city and an ode to how Cortland popped the question. So we played around in downtown Durham, went to the amazing Durham Hotel for some photos, and then drove out to the farm that Cortland grew up on. It was a dream of a day, and it’s hard to imagine how these two could be any better suited for each other. We can’t wait to watch them grow, and especially to be a part of the journey. Thanks you two.
